The Art Of Making Your Sweetheart Swoon This Valentine's Day


Are you still fretting and having sleepless nights thinking of how you can impress your loved ones without breaking the bank? Well, here's a little idea which is bound to impress your significant other with an A for effort!

Ingredients:
3/4 cup unsalted butter (170g)
1 1/4 cups powdered sugar (155g)
A pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 egg yolks
2 1/2 cups cake flour
Food colouring
Egg wash: 1 egg white & 1 teaspoon water (5ml)
Sprinkles

Cookie Batter
1) Cream unsalted butter in a bowl, then add powdered sugar. Mix well.
2) Add in a pinch of salt and vanilla extract then mix well.
3) Add in 3 egg yolks to the mixture then stir well.
4) Sift in 2 1/2 cups of cake flour, then mix well once again.
5) Loosen the mixture on a table and knead it into large dough.
6) Set 1/3 of it for vanilla dough, 2/3 for rainbow colours dough.
7) For the rainbow colours dough portion, separate it into 6 equal portions.
8) Add food colouring to each portion.
9) Wrap each portion of the dough in plastic wrapping.

Cookie Roll Plan
Each colour layer = 0.2 inch (5mm)
Height of heart = 1.2 inch (3cm)
Height of cookie cutter = 0.8 inch (2cm)

Cookie Roll
1) Place a dough with food colouring in the middle of two 0.2 inch booklets and cover it with plastic wrapping. Then roll the dough into a rectangular shape and place it in the refrigerator. Repeat with the other colours.
2) Create egg wash by stirring 1 egg white with 1 tea spoon of water. Brush the egg wash on the top surface of a coloured dough, then stack another coloured dough on top of it. Repeat till all colours are stacked, then lightly press it with a roller. Remove excess dough and create a rectangular shaped dough.
3) Cut the dough into 0.6 inch (1.5cm) portions.
4) Set the dough in the refrigerator.
5) Use a heart shaped mould on the coloured dough.
6) Brush top surface with egg white wash and stack all the layers.
7) Break the vanilla dough into portions and wrap the coloured heart shaped dough wih it.
8) Wrap the finished dough in a plastic wrap and set it in the refrigerator.
9) Brush surface of the finished dough with egg wash, and roll it in sprinkles mixture.
10) Slice the dough into thin layers.
11) Bake at 335F. (170 Degree Celsius) for 10-11 minutes.

Tadah! We are done. Whew, that's alot of effort put into baking these isn't it?
